Iulia Iordache is a young graduate of Grinnell College in Iowa. Originally from tiny Baicoi in Prahova county, she got her high school education at Ion Luca Caragiale National College in Ploiesti, developed a passion for U.S. study, met us and then the admissions rep of Grinnell College. Then what? She was admitted at this top of the line liberal arts college, with full funding: she competed against 900 applicants for a special all-inclusive scholarship offered by a former Grinnell alum for four years of study, amounting to over $200,000. And she got it!
Her four years with Grinnell were fast paced and enriching beyond any dreams. She entered college with a passion for business and majored in psychology and Russian, excelled academically, came to love liberal arts education, traveled everywhere in the USA and almost everywhere outside the USA – with a summer job at the EducationUSA center in Malaysia in 2014 and now heading for a job in Thailand for a year before going to Russia to perfect her language skills, all facilitated by her university – found her “American parents” in the host family the college matched her with, did a range of extracurriculars that enriched her and the campus, and is now part of the Grinnell alumni network that is paving her way to a fine career.
She originally thought one can get a fine education only at Ivy League schools. She is now thrilled that she had the opportunity to get a superb, well-rounded education at Grinnell, with never more than 30 students in a class, with high academic standards and state-of-the-art facilities in a campus with no more than 1,600 students, and ample room for individual attention and personalized research guidance.
